WASHINGTON – The Coalition for Access Now – the leading advocate for ensuring access to quality and consistent Cannabidiol (CBD) products for mothers, caregivers, veterans, athletes, and more who rely on CBD – today applauds House Energy and Commerce Health Subcommittee Chairman Morgan Griffith (R-VA) for his leadership in releasing draft legislation that would finally set a framework for the regulation of non-intoxicating CBD products.
Mothers who fought fiercely for national access to CBD, as well as veterans and pain leaders hailed the Griffith draft legislation:
"The millions of Americans who have been part of our movement since the beginning, including mothers, veterans, seniors, and athletes, have always sought reliable and safe access to CBD. The language released by Chairman Morgan Griffith is a major step toward achieving these fundamental goals, and beginning the process of guiding states to create clear lines that ensure access to safe, non-intoxicating CBD products." – Paige Figi, CBD Pioneer Mother and Executive Director of the Coalition for Access Now.
“We fought as mothers for access to CBD for our children in all 50 states but regulatory uncertainty has put access in jeopardy. Rep. Griffith understands the importance of CBD access to our families in Virginia and we applaud his leadership in moving the process along so we can have peace of mind.” – Lisa Smith, Mother, White Stone, VA.
“Veterans are suffering and too often the only option for pain are opioids and other toxic controlled substances that create a new set of problems. CBD offers a natural and safe alternative and it is absolutely critical that veterans support Mr. Griffith and his efforts to ensure safety and certainty of access for the CBD products on which we rely.” - Will Wisner, Grunt Style.
“For people living with chronic pain, the availability of safe, clearly labeled CBD products can make a real difference in daily quality of life. Chairman Griffith’s draft legislation acknowledges that need and offers hope for better, more trustworthy options. It’s a win for the more than 50 million Americans living with pain, their loved ones, and public health.” - Nicole Hemmenway, CEO, U.S. Pain Foundation.
"When everything else failed, CBD worked for my son, Reagan, and he's been seizure free for eleven years. Last year, he was able to get his driver's license, which seemed impossible years ago. Thank you, Congressman Griffith, for leading the charge of protecting our children and our epilepsy community." – Stephanie Fokas, Texas Mom; Epilepsy Advocate; and Board Member for the Epilepsy Foundation Texas.
“Our state of Iowa indiscriminately banned CBD, which is forcing families to choose between moving out of the state or being treated like a criminal for simply trying to save their children. We need thoughtful leaders like Rep. Morgan Griffith who understand the life-saving benefits of non-intoxicating CBD.” – Sally Gaer, Iowa Mom.
“Congress enabled access to CBD in all 50 states and in a stroke of a pen my state of Tennessee took it away from our veterans, children, seniors, and others in pain. Mostly because they confused non-intoxicating hemp-derived CBD with synthetics intoxicating products pretending to be CBD. Thank you Rep. Griffith for finishing the job that Congress left unfinished in 2018.” – Gail Grauer, Tennessee Grandmother.
“CBD access was hard fought by a movement of families and then taken away by the State of California as we celebrated the 2-year anniversary of our daughter Sadie’s last seizure. This undoubtedly will send her back to nights in the emergency room that are completely preventable. We need a federal regulatory approach that ensures access for Sadie and other children who rely on CBD.” – Stephanie Bohn, Mother, California.
“My daughter’s epilepsy does not respond to anti-seizure meds, which is why CBD is a miracle for her – and us. Nine years seizure free and counting! Congressman Griffith is leading to make sure we always know we can access CBD for her.” – Tracy Thaxton Berg, Florida Mother.
